NH 68 - Tickled pink

I am really happy... amazed actually. Went looking for the infamous wood plunger bearings that run in my old as me New Holland 68 baler. NH wants $100 a piece, $400 for the set. Got a set from Esch Hay Equipment out of Gordonville, PA. $15 each plus shipping. Ran $89 for the set of 4. I really appreciate these guys pricing the product at a reasonable price for 4 wood sticks, not the highway robbery of New Holland.

I have no idea what wood they used. Looks like a good solid hardwood.

Heck, they even shipped them to me and said pay the bill when you receive them. A breath of fresh air in these days.

Phone number is 717-768-0600. They deserve our business.

I am not trying to defend NH but Esch has a much thinner layer of management to pay and that helps.

I bought a 68 in 2012 or so for $200 at an auction and had to put new slides in, I just used some ash 2x2 offcuts from the sawmill so it didn't cost anything. It's been running pretty
well ever since. I'm glad you found some for your 68 that were affordable.

I know wood bearings have been used for centuries. Grist mills used applewood
and rock maple for bearings. You do grease these in your baler? On here a few
weeks ago somebody said about some type of wood that is super oily and it takes
care of itself. Used in clock bearings and stuff like that. Fascinating what
has been developed through the centuries.
