OT grandson has a Chevy Cruze radiator
fan cycles on and off all the time, temp
guage is normal,any ideas? Thanks

Does it matter if the AC is on?

If so, could be the refrigerant is over charged, low, or the condenser is clogged with bugs.

For what ever reason the engine temperature is running high. Could be the sensor. Could also be not enough or too much antifreeze in the system or it might be low on coolant. The only way to know is with a hydrometer. The radiator might also need to be flushed out. Look in the radiator and see if there is any krud accumulated on the fins.

Fan will do that if A.C. or defrost is on. It s amazing how many people drive around with their defrost on all the time, they don t know your A.C. compressor runs when you have it on hurting mileage.

Some fans are louder than most so they are just more noticeable when they come on. Your daily driver does it too.

Depend on cycle time and when it is doing it and how lone it is in the on cycle and how long in the off cycle. Setting idle short burst of on-off, city driving should be on most of the time, highway driving probably not on much as forward movement ov vehical puts bore air through radiater than the fan would so not needed. So could be normal or a sign something is wrong. Need way more information.

as others have said i would guess with the AC or defrost on when you're hearing it.

the fans will run every time the AC compressor kicks on weather the engine temp is ok or even cold. Must have air moving across the AC condenser to make it work so the fans must run.

Hi, The chey cruise is a little different. You do need to scan the EMC for codes. It is also good to look at the scan data for the cooling/heating system. Their is 2 temp sensors in the cooling system. One at the rear of the engine in the housing with all the hoses going to it and the other in in the lower radiator hose or the radiator depending on Year. When one of fails it may or may not set a code. All so know that the thermostat is electric. Controlled by the ECM.

Forgot to add. You want to look at the scan data cold. Let set over night if possible. Both coolant temp's should be with 10* of each other. If one Is way out of air temp. Replace that sensor. One sensor being out of spec can cause all kinds of weird running problems. Hope this helps. David
