Leaving carburetor off of tractor?

I am leaving for vacation this coming Friday, and will not be home until the following Saturday. I ordered a carburetor rebuild kit from Yesterdays Tractor, but it will not be here before I leave for vacation. I have some free time this week before I leave, so I would like to take the carburetor apart and clean it before I leave.

My question is, is it bad to leave my carburetor off of the tractor for a couple weeks? I will cover the manifold and the air filter ports that connect to the carburetor, but I am not sure if this is bad.

If it is not recommended, I will wait until I get home, I just would like to take advantage of my free time and try to do some cleaning and learning about the carburetor before I leave.

Take some duct tape and tape off the intake so mud dubbers do not build a nest in the intake

In addition I would take some pics of the throttle, choke, and governor rod connections so that after some time away it won't "surprise" you;-)

Just stuff a rag in the intake and the air cleaner hose.

Tape up the fuel line to keep any curious insects out.

Where are you vacationing?

Steve, I am vacationing at the beach in Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

Everyone, thank you for the tips, I will plug up all the holes and ports and take lots of pictures.

I wouldn't. If I did that the intake manifold would have dirt dobber nests in it after two weeks. I won't even leave one open for an hour without stuffing a rag in the hole.

John be safe at the coast. Watch out for jellyfish, man of war, and sharks
in the surf. They are plentiful this season so far. And plug the intake
like others said.

I would just tape over the manifold or stuff a rag in it. Watch out for the jelly fish. My first time on the beach. I had one just
brush my leg. I thought my leg was on fire.

1) Take pictures before every disassembly step. You will be surprised how quickly one's memory fades or deforms, BTDT.
2) Keep parts safely stored
3) Use holiday period for thorough soaking of all parts
4) Enjoy your holiday, be safe
:)
