Fine screen funnel

Luckily I use a fine screen funnel when pouring fuel! This morning I was going to put in 5 gallons of diesel that had been
sitting in the shed since last fall, and it plugged the funnel! I always keep 5 gallons extra because it's a long way to
anyplace to buy diesel (25 miles) and I don't want to run short. In the late fall I put in 5 gallons of winter fuel so the
last of the summer fuel just sits over winter. I add a little biocide to the tractor tank a couple of times a year but I guess
I should put some in the cans. The tractor is an 01 JD 4600, and it's easy to drain the tank so I guess I will drain out a
little. I have a spare filter on the shelf.

I can only find metal funnels with screens at Rural King.

I'm surprised all the crap the screen catches. I inspect cans before filling. Some of the crap may be falling off outside of ca s or off my clothes.

I always use a screened funnel, and was sorta surprised how much crud, dirt, and rust it caught all the time. I switched to another source of fuel, and - no more dirt - at all. Mark.

Kubota Accessories sells a similar funnel that also removes water.

It looks similar but has only a single filter so one wonders about flow rate.

I looked at one but did not buy it because it is not compatible with gasoline.

They made them for snowmobiles 40 years ago.
You could fuel up in a blizzard with snow going in the funnels but no further than the screen.

Got a new big plastic one at rural king last year.

What plastic fummels with screens that I have seen the screen is so big of opening it might as well not have one.

What do you think plugged the screen? I have to say our fuel stays pretty clean. I've got a filter on the pump on my 1000 gallon diesel tank. I can't recall when I last changed it but I know the date on the filter is from the 1990s and fuel still flows just fine.

I would guess it was algae, if you pour it in a clean jar you couldn't see anything, but only about a quart would go through the funnel and then it was plugged. If I ever store fuel over winter again I will add some biocide. I never know how much I will burn in the fall because once it starts raining I'm done.
