Planter broke today...

..but it were'nt so bad. Seed in the hoppers. Meters all good. Went to test the markers...left one goes down and up but then the right one fell hard with planter raised. Fluid starts pouring out of the main frame piece. No problem...who needs markers? Had to remove the T from the line to stop the fluid pouring out, then finished up. I dunno what gave out on the marker circuit but it sure made a mess. Been a while since I had to go in there, don't remember what all there is. JD 7000 so parts aren't too hard to find. Guess I will look at it tomorrow.

I believe the 7000s had cable and some sorta of a mechanical trip. I had a line to a marker siding a leak on my 7200 the first day I got into the field this year.

The 7000's had the lift cylinder inside the square tube, it was attached to the cables.

The mice would build a nest inside and rust out the small hydraulic lines, I do not know about the 7200's

David: Lay the right hand marker down. Remove the marker shear pin. Remove the pin out of the lift cable. You can now pivot the mark back from the frame. The maker lift system is mounted right there. Remove the lift cable pin from the left marker then tie a small rope or long piece of twine to the cable. Remove the mounting bolts from the marker lift cylinder mount. Pull the lift cylinder out of the frame. There is a hydraulic hose looped inside the frame so you can pull the marker actuator out. There is also a steel line that runs over to the center of the frame. Hope the hose just blew. If it is the steel line then remove the fitting from the front of the frame tube and the line will pull out the same end as the marker actuator. Usually is the steel line rusted out. Half the time you can use brass and braze the line to repair it. It all depends on how rusty the line is.

In the future fold the makers back at the end of the season and blow the frame tube out. Then throw a couple of packs of moth balls in there to keep the mice out over the winter.

If you have any trouble phone me. IO will be around the farm all day.

Thanks Randy! I think I've got this but will call you if I run into trouble. Planting is a bit easier with markers but it wasn't too much of a trial. If that line rusted out once then likely I will just replace it. I hate doing the same repair twice and this sounds like a likely candidate. I chased those mice out of there two years running but have not seen one in a few years. They used to run out of everywhere as soon as I pulled out of the shed but between cats, traps and periodic blasts of air into the tube it seems to have discouraged them. I do stay after them. I am on rain delay for the repair. Has to be done outside and this planter has not seen a drop of rain since I rebuilt it back....well, you remember.

I have a couple balls of chicken wire I put into the ends of my 7000. Keeps rhw rodents out. Plus blowing it out with 5 ft alum blow pipe after last planting helps. Keep your equip dust free and it will stay rust free.
