Sterile bull???

I think my awesome black belted Galloway bull went sterile. No injuries or anything obvious. He physically does him job, but the heifers he is with have com I to heat 3 times now. Any idea what could have caused this? Guessing the only cure is a trip on the trailer to the sale barn?

Too many factors to give a correct answer. I have mine tested every year no matter what I think their condition is. Has saved my tail a couple times. Also by testing under the microscope you can normally test when they are wearing down. An old cattle farmer told me when I was about 11 or 12 that the bull is half your herd. If he doesn?t do his part it will put a hit on your numbers and your wallet. Also a great rule of thumb I read once is one cow per month of age of the bull up to 36 months. Pushing a bull too hard especially early is a common fallacy among yearling bulls.

He only has two brood cows and three heifers. He is about 8 years old. Threw some nice calves.

Neighbor buys a herd, 8 open heifers, 1 bull, 18-24 mo. ages, Brangus with good blood lines, grade stock. Bull settles one heifer almost immediately
(which calves on time, nice calf) then nothing. No visible injury indications. Owners are not live on folks. Time goes by, like maybe a year. Nothing was
done to anything to speak of. Next thing you know, he remembers how to breed and wala, calves everywhere. This cycle running around 11-12 months
normal as can be. Who knows.

Ya mean like the old bull and the young bull when they spotted the herd of heifers?????????????????????????

My dad said he bought an expensive bull and appeared to
be useless. The vet gave him something to feed the bull
and soon he was breeding everything. He got out and bred
some of the neighbors cows. The neighbor asked him what
the vet gave him. Dad said he didn't know but it tasted
like charcoal. Ed Will Oliver BC
