Lost the keyway Craftsman lawn tractor1993'

I lost the key way for the right rear wheel of my vintage, 1993 Craftsman law tractor after changing the tire.. Looking for replacement key today, but in the meantime, when running in-gear the tractor does not move. Is the tractor a single wheel drive or do both rear wheels have a key and create traction? Tractor sat for 3-years before changing tire and had no issues whatsoever prior to removing the tire. Hum??? Key size, 2x3/16"x3/16???

The key is what drives the wheel. Any hardware store will have the key. You could remove the key from the other axle and take it to the store and get another like it.

You can get 3/16" key stock at most any hardware or automotive store. Probably comes as 12" piece.

Without the key, you will probably find the axle is turning in the wheel. Just install the key and you're good to go.

You can't loose a keyway, that's the groove in the axle! The key maybe! If it didn't have a differential it would tear up the lawn every time you turn.

If necessity steps in, drive a nail of the closest size into the keyways, cut the excess off and drive it like you stole it!!

Probably not as it would not turn but keep on going straight with front wheels sliding sideways.

Also before you put the wheel back on any lawn tractor smear some grease on the axle. Will keep the wheel and axle from rusting on and getting perminently rust stuck.
