Select-o-speed

1964 FORD INDUSTRIAL 4000 backhoe. I have a select-o-speed tranny, 1st & 4th & reverse don't want to work after sitting for 3 plus years, where do I start looking for basic problems specific to that? The hyd. oil was empty when I got it. No doubt the filter needs changing too. I have an S-O-S manual but it's not quite the one for this model. JIM

If you are loosing 1 &4 that narrows it down a little. It's been MANY years but had one apart that would loose 1-4 when warm. Change the trans fluid. May or may not fix problem but probably needs it anyway after sitting. Don't have a book in front of me but that trans used a couple clutch packs plus bands to find gears.
