Front mounted 8N cultivator

Early this spring I showed a picture of a front mounted cultivator for an 8N Ford. Some guys asked to see pictures of it when it was finished. The rear tire is on backwards because I only mounted one side otherwise rear tires would get weighed from side to side.

I never got to use it. Pa said it was the biggest pile of junk he ever bought. He used it once and put it in a corner of the shed. Refused to let me use it

Having used what is on the back, I see no advantage for this piece. Looks like a mess. Agree with your dad!

Back cultivator worked well.

Ns were a little marvel for what they could do with a plow and disc, for mowing - sickle mowing in those days, for getting the mail and who knows what else.
Yet I chuckle at your father learning the hard way that cultivating tractors they were not.
Nice to see a set mounted and a good piece of history.
Did you use the rear part? I would think you did.
I helped a guy sell one of those.
Only saw the parts and pieces of it.
Didn't realize the front shovels were mid mounted. Just assumed they went under the front axle somehow.
I had some good photos of the pieces but they're lost now.
Thanks for the post and photos.

Yes, I just used the rear cultivator. Couldn't look straight forward for a week. They were excellent 2 row cultivating tractors if you didn't mind looking backwards. Got sick of it when I was 13 and bought an A JD with a front cult. Much better.

Different looking front unit than I ever heard of. What I knew of and would have liked was mounted to front axle. Would have been able to see what you were doing driving straight ahead. Used corners of hood for guiding to stay on the rows. Used the rear section on a lot of acreage.

Not supposed to look back, just straight forward. If need to check cultivator stop while looking forward, put out of gear then look around. That is why the guide was made for the front axle so you did not have to look back. I myself never did like the rear mount, prefering the front mount on the 2 cylinder Deeres.
