Best Petroleum Based Rust Treatment

I have a 7-year old horse trailer, steel frame and suspension/brake housings are just rusting to pieces. No sign of any paint from the factory, was obviously bare metal. For what these cost new and the exposure to moisture from sitting over grass -- can't image the manufacturer not shooting a coat of anything on those parts before assembly. I should probably get it up on a lift and wire brush it, but for now I want to just soak it with something effective.

What is a good penetrating rust treatment ?

rrlund told me about Fluid Film awhile back -- could not remember the name. Diesel is nice and cheap. Ospho stuff looks interesting.

I just spray used hydraulic oil on the underside of some of my vehicles. Its pretty much free.

An ex neighbor of mine (cheapest guy EVER - now deceased) had a whack of OLD equipment that he slathered with used oil - not his (don't think he ever changed oil in his stuff -remember cheap). He got it from gas stations in the area ( before EPA), in 45 gal .drums (provided by the gas station - go back to cheap), and they loaded into his really crappy IH flatdeck. He then converted them (to him free - no returns) burn barrels (legal at the time) and sold them. Nice man ---NOT !

Have used Fluid Film with good luck, should be reapplied every year will wash off. Recently used Black Star Rust Converter on a rusty truck frame and was quite pleased. Goes on with brush roller or spray. Removed the scale and put on the rusty surface can be left like that or painted over. It converts it to a sealed surface and after several weeks has not bled through or rerusted. Leaves a black surface were it contacts rust.
I will applying an epoxy coating over it to further seal and finish.
In the pics I ran needle scaler over it and brushed it on. Can be put over surface rust without scraping or sanding.
Truck sat outside for a week and had no wash off or bleed. Make sure to wear gloves it doesn't wash off skin. Ask me how I know that. So far I 'm a believer.

How dense is the surface of the material and how much rust is on it? Usually I just buy a special chemical and use it if there is not much rust on the surface. But for example, when about 80% of my trailer is rusty metal, I just used my drill, it's universal, look - https://drilling-it.com/dewalt-dwd112-drill-review/ , a brush attachment for it and work the surface. A radical method, but it's better.

Fluid film is great for surfaces that it is in contact with. The problem is that it is too thick to penetrate any distance between parts that are bolted tightly together. Water does get in there and rust soon follows. So Fluid film will make you feel good, but your trailer will still be rusting away in the key places.
