Napa fuel filters are junk

I have been noticing the fuel filter looking like it was leaking. I normally use napa filters because they were made by wix. Now they are plastic and u cannot tighten them like the metal ones. So I noticed I had an old unused one still and changed it. When i took the old one off the filter rattled inside the plastic container. Puroilator and a couple other brands are made by wix just don't waste your money. Wix is junk the outside is also smaller so a filter wrench does not fit and a strap wrench slips. I bought a case of racor filters

Sorry but it isn't Napa's fault you
haven't learned to change a filter
properly.

Next time try cleaning the base, wet your
finger with fuel and wet the filter base
and seal with it. Install the filter -
HAND TIGHT. Done. If you were supposed to
use a wrench on it there would be a
provision for it.

I haven't had any plastic ones yet. But cartage oil filter don't come with O rings seals any more. you have to pay two buck extra to get them.

How do you know the NAPA filter was made by Wix? Even if your NAPA filter is defective, that doesn't necessarily mean "Wix is junk".

I have found Napa the most expensive place to buy filters. I can get them cheaper thru Deere even for other tractors brands.

You don't your filters because Purolator is not made by Wix it is part Bosch. The
Racor filter are made by Parker Hannifin. If you would do a little research you would
find NAPA gold are made to higher specs than original equipment filters.

Irlamed, it appears that you should leave filter changes to your dealer or a reputable repair shop.

Almost every independent repair shop around here uses, and or stocks WIX filters to use for repairs they have to warranty.
I figure if they are good enough for them, they are good enough for me. I've never had a problem.

They are 40% higher on hyd filters. The local Nack dealer is even cheaper with fleetguard filters.

Someone should make a video of all the different filter models and brands.

compare side by side the differeneces.

then weigh them cut them apart and examine the construction

examine the parts and features and the filter media

how the filter media is attached and how many square inches of it in each

for the real heavyweight scientific process can be performed to the performance levels of each
their abilities to filter out different sized contaminant

How many magnets or springs valves or features

their abilities to handle rouge fluids

oh there are a lot of so called self educated filter inspection videos on youtube

hmmmm?

Fleetguard makes a good filters. NAPA has a number of discounts. If you buy on line they have at times 50 to 70% discount. At one time I had a jobbers number and got 50% off on most parts I bought.

I try to buy as few Napa parts as I can. They seem to fail a lot quicker than any others. Bummer though, the owner of our local Napa is very knowledgeable and helpful. If it wasn't for the parts I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Maybe someone will post the link to the one that comes up here every year or so. The one that shows that WIX is the best. I think that it is overdue.

Those are Duramax fuel filters. I only use
Delco fuel filters on my customers Duramax
trucks. The plastic ones from Napa, Wix,
and others are impossible to keep tight in
a rough use environment such as farming and
excavation. I have solved several hard
morning start or leak issues by installing
a steel Delco in place of plastic.
Usually, even if not causing an issue,
those plastic ones can be removed by hand.

Napa has two grades of parts. You ask for cheap, you get cheap (think AutoZone). They still carry the good stuff.

Had an oil distributor that I delivered to that had a counter in his business with every oil filter of the time period. They were all cut in half and under each one it told how and what filter was made of. After see that there were a number of them you wouldn't take home if they were given to you.

Same here, JD dealer is much cheaper on filters. Nothing against NAPA, they have good people behind the counter at our store.

You're seeing the same thing I'm seeing. Napa has reduced quality to the point that I buy very little there now. I'm not the only one, which resulted in a takeover of our local store by Napa corporate until they can sell it to some other sucker. We've mostly switched to OEM which we buy for less than the rebranded stuff, although I still trust and use Baldwin in many off highway applications.

Retail price is horrendous. Some stores have a periodic sale, that gets down to reality. One store I used to do business with had a dummy account they ran most the filters through, so everyone could get the volume discount.

I didn't know they made cheaper parts. I've never asked for a lesser grade parts. Perhaps that is all the guy sells. With his knowledge I find it difficult to believe he sells the lesser parts though.

When I needed to change out the filter on my 2017 Duramax, I checked the web sites for all the local auto parts stores. None stocked Delco or Wix filters; they only stocked their house brands. I figured if I had to special order the filter, I might as well go to Amazon. Delco filter is 25 bucks on Amazon, 40 if I order through the local store. I'd like to give the local stores my business, but they sure make it difficult.
