Walmart tires continued....

Recently purchased a rear riding lawn mower tire for 1/2 the price($30 vs. $60) @ Walmart....Tractor Supply wanted $60 AND it will be a matching tread too. Original tire was 26 years old on a Craftsman twin cylinder mower.

I have seen some cheap prices on their car tires too but am afraid I may not be happy with them.

I put new walmart tires on my car last fall and have been very satisfied. I'm thinking seriously of buying tires for my truck this year. On the car, I spent just over half what I was expecting to pay.

Those Craftsman tires didn't hold up long, I have a 1968 Wheel Horse and the rear tires still say wheel horse on them and they're still in good shape.

I want to stress here that these are MY experiences with Walmart. Depending on the circumstances, they've been good and bad.
First, several years ago, they had some Goodyear Wranglers on sale that I wanted for my Jeep. They only had three, so I purchased them and installed them at one store and put another one on a week later at another store. No road hazard was purchased. One tire began to fall apart at a very early age. These tires have a knobby-ish type of tread and each knob kind of looks like the state of Texas. On that one tire, there were serious cracks around each knob. The tire was wearing good, just cracking severely. Shop rep told me neither WM nor Goodyear would stand behind it because I didn't buy the road hazard. I stressed that this isn't a road hazard problem, they still told me to pound sand even though he admitted that he would not be riding in a car with that tire on it. Quite the irony.
A few years ago, I desperately needed a 13" tire for a car on a Sunday afternoon. Nobody else was open, they said they had one in inventory, so away I went with the rim. I had dismounted the tire myself and only brought in the rim. I positively wrote down the size, but when I get there, he said the 13" tire wouldn't fit on the rim and a 14" tire was too big. Seriously? He showed me that the 14 inch tire was too big, so then before they could say anything about liability and insurance, I grabbed the 13" tire and mounted it on the rim myself with their machine. (I used used to work in a tire shop right out of high school, piece of cake) As I walked back to the waiting area, I asked them if they wanted me to air it up. The guy who told me the 13" tire wouldn't fit was dumbfounded and he had worked there over 10 years. I never did figure that one out.
I bought some Hankook tires for my Ford Ranger and they installed them. They specifically told me there was a rebate on those tires and game me the form. I sent in the form and got a reply that the rebate didn't apply to those SPECIFIC Hankook tires. Okay, my fault on that one. They have been some excellent tires, however.
On a side note, many (if not most) WalMart stores hook up their computerized battery tester to a battery that needs warranty work. It takes up to 90-120 minutes for their computer to make a decision on if the battery is defective or not. Not gonna stay in a WM store that long. They've lost most of my battery business.
Before I get the "buy local" reply, the local tire shop won't sell or install tires on a Saturday morning and are closed Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

Here is a little secret that I learned on the tires I recently purchased at Walmart. If you go online (walmart.com) and check for the tires you want, they are cheaper than if you purchase the exact same tire in the store. Shipping to the store was free. It was the same cost to mount/balance if you purchased in the store or bought online. I want to say that it was about $15 less per tire for the Uniroyal Tires.

Only downside is that they do not take appointments, it is first come first serve. I think I was sent an email when the tires arrived at the store.

What brand of tires? "Walmart" is where you bought them from.

If you were expecting to pay for quality brand name tires, and bought cheap Chinese tires instead, it's not a valid comparison.

Now if you got Michelins for half price, that's saying something.
