I want to check if the plugs are working. Super hard to start. Only trys to run on 3 or 4 cyls. when or if ut starts to run on its own, it takes a long time to run on all 6, pouring smoke. I think I want to bench test the G. plugs. Is there a special tool to remove them?

can any one help? Thanks, Smokey

simplist and fastest... use an ohmmeter some have the buzzer and even easier. check right on the tractor. 7/16 deep socket to remove and check with a battery.

You don't need to remove them for testing. If any DO need to be replaced, you need a "deep socket" to fit, is it 7/16"?

Disconnect the wires from the glowplugs, connect a test lead to battery power, and touch the end to the terminals on the GP's, one at a time, if they are working, you will note a little spark. (Don't power them up for more than a little while.)

They typically either work/draw current or are "open"

For a more accurate test, power them through an Ammeter capable of reading 30 or 50 Amps.

IIRC, you will find that they draw about 15 Amps each, whatever the exact number is, it should be consistent over a 6 of them.

I use a test light, for a quick check connect the clamp end to the starter HOT terminal. Then with all the plug wires off touch the light point to each spade terminal, any that DON'T light are bad, open circuit. Takes a 3/8 deep socket to remove them.
