I?m not sure how the school bus got involved in that, but cool pics!

Too wet to drive, and you want it done, hope it dries enough to work them in in a couple days?

Paul

(quoted from post at 09:07:35 05/30/19) I have not seen that done before. You do learn something new every day if you pay attention and remember what you saw.
With I was closer. Would be fun to watch.

SV, is that a turbine or conventional engine air tractor. Is he carrying 20 bushels seed. He use GPS ? Your getting more planted than we are in the Midwest.

With the cost and size of alfalfa seed, That seams like a very hap-hazard way to establish a good uniform crop of alfalfa. How does the pilot deal with the boarders of the field and wind drift???------------Loren

I?m not sure on the engine he uses gps so he knows the where he?s been where he?s going on the seed is mixed with fertilizer so it will spread evenly

He spreads it the same way he does chemical an experienced pilot can put the seed down right where he wants it . Alfalfa seed is cheap compared to the chemical that goes on a potato field when he flies that on you can watch the spray come out of the plane and land exactly on the plant even on the ends of the row he knows how much farther past the row to go before turning the spray off then you can watch it fall perfectly right up the last plant in the row and stop

It?s drying out surprisingly fast considering we?ve had over 3 inches rain in ten days there is no standing water in the fields and that?s after almost 6 feet of last winter it?s dry by any means but we?re know where near flooding either

I guess that would work on big flat fields. Around here our fields are not flat and most are surrounded by hedge rows with tall trees and others totally surrounded with woodlands or steep ledges. By the time a plane would get down to spray height he would have to pull up for obstacles also including power lines crossing fields. The last crop sprayer who did ag spraying around here crashed within sight of my house when he didn't see a power line that crossed a field.----Loren

We have quite a lot of power lines not many trees though it is scary to watch them miss the power lines by what looks like inches

I watched as someone with a helicopter seed and fertilize a 100 foot wide right of way up and down hills and across open fields, and a month after they finished the only place grass was growing was in the right of way those kind of guys are amazing at what they can do. they also said they can work minutes after a rain storm that's something conventional seeders can't do. This would be a sight to see also

Alfalfa seed isn't all that cheap....Roundup ready alfalfa seed here is $600 a 60 pound bag. Put it with fertilizer here and thru the mixer. Blown on with a self propelled spreader and followed by a Brillion style packer.

BTO in the next county where I have a couple rental houses sowed Crimson Clover from an airplane into standing corn one Fall, next Spring Crimson Clover was blooming all over the place. He even got a little seed in the cornfield.

jlewis457 Any pilot that should be flying on chemical can put it right where it needs to go it?s pretty impressive to watch what they can do

Several wheat fields in our area were top dressed this year flown on. I got stuck in my front yard this week trying to drive across it with the 5020. Two main tile from the ditch are plugged up from the chucks. The tile guy said in April he couldn't get to me until June because of the back log caused by the constant rain. I am afraid to call to see when he can get to it now since it has not quit raining for more than one or two days.

Agreed. Those crop dusters can do some amazing things in their planes. If you ever feel the need to the get the ever lasting **** scared out of you - ride with one for a couple loads on some fields surrounded by tall trees.

Dick we?ve had 4 inches of rain this last ten days and we?re back in the fields yesterday and today
