Ford 3000 oil

I have a 1966 ford 3000 gas tractor my Dad bought new.On changing the oil Is it best to use 10w30 or 10w40.The Ford dealer said both are fine.I use mostly in the summer where it gets in the upper 90's here sometimes. Also would synthetic blend be better than conventional? All it's ever known is conventional. Thanks for anyone's thoughts.

I live in Missouri where it can get down to below zero or up over 100. I use 20W50 in every thing I have but 2 and one of the 2 is a diesel and the other so old it smokes a lot so in the old on I use a 60W oil and the diesel a diesel type oil

I would use a 15W-40 Delvac or Rotella Diesel rated oil in it.

Conventional oil is fine, synthetic handles real cold better, but hard to tell difference if you plug in block heater.

Every thing i own is old as in the newest is a 97 Chevy van and his tractor is also old so again has a good chance of a lot of hours on it and in 90 temp the 20W-50 will help oil pressure up

I'll second the 15w-40 diesel oil.

Conventional would be my choice since that's what's always been in it.

Very little advantage to the synthetic in that application. My concern is it "might" turn loose some deposits that are better left stuck where they are instead of circulating through the engine.

Oil pressure and oil flow are two different animals. Pressure can be increased just like in a water hose with reducing the flow of water but an engine needs flow more than pressure. One should NEVER reduce oil flow in an engine by increasing pressure.

"Oil pressure and oil flow are two different animals."

Exactly!

Put a cup of heavy weight oil in the freezer overnight. Take it out and turn it upside down...

Now imagine pumping that through an 1/8" oil galley all the way up to an overhead cam that desperately needs oil on the lifters!

The pump may be pushing 80-100 lbs, but by the time it gets that syrup where it needs to go, not going to be much flow.

If you have good OIL FLOW you won't have any problems so that tells me your engines have good oil flow. If all an engine had was good oil pressure and poor oil flow for ten years it would NEVER last 10 years unless it is being used very little.
