We would normally start during the last week of May, but not this year. Been so cool and rainy, no crops planted and hay hasn?t grown enough to cut yet. What kind of machine did you cut this hay with? I ask this not to be nosy, but I too use a wheel rake. And was wondering only because I have only raked hay cut into windrows. And curious as to how well a wheel rake will gather hay that is laid flat or tedded out. Bruce

Bruce I use Kuhn 700 and 800 disc cutters, 9' 6" width. Thinner grass like Bahia will lay flat but jigs at time wont even appear to be cut....it just stands there. So we run Kuhn tedders as well.

He is. Well it is his kids now. Gary Vermeer passed away several years ago. The round baler did change the way we make hay and it is where he got started. He also invented a myriad of other machines including construction equipment, environmental use equipment, trenching and underground boring equipment, and more. He just had one of those inventive minds. The Vermeer plant is about 15 miles northwest of me.

Side note - if anyone had a Vermeer baler manufactured in 1972, the tongue of the baler would probably have been welded by yours truly - My first job away from home after high school.
