Worked on a couple years ago. Not to common. Most had the 4 cyl overhead. Wondering if you rn into any.

That's a Continental flathead six cylinder ..... I suspect parts are still relatively easy to fine, not sure though. They made lots of them back in the day. See the link below for some more information. Also post your question on the Massey forum here at YT.
Massey Harris 44 6 info .....

the early ones in late forty's had the flathead six , the they went to the 4 cyl. continental. I have a 44-6. very smooth running tractor.

Two or three 44-6's turn up at our area steam shows every summer. Smooth running, sweet-sounding tractors!

Incidentally the 44-6 engine (Continental F226 flathead) was used in all manner of forklifts, irrigation pumps, construction equipment (rollers, compressors, pavers, welders, etc) Checker taxis, etc. of that era. Engine parts are still readily available.

JOCCO Over 30 years ago antique tractor pulling really got hot. I thought I had found a sleeper, found a 44 with the flat 6. After a year and spending over two thousand I found out the valve in head motors have a limit. We ended up pulling two MH 44 with the 4 cylinder . Had those motors around 95 hp and won several state championships. Finally went to the 77 olivers as they could be made even hotter. I was all ways told the 6 cylinder was used as a war shortage engine but like others have said real common engine.

(quoted from post at 18:51:29 05/19/19) Yes I know flatheads are harder to soup up.

She's just a little deuce coup with a flathead mill, but she'll walk a Thunderbird like she's standin' still.

I have only been close to a couple!!! Went to an auction several years ago to look at one!!! It was pretty rough, didn?t run and nobody seemed to know much about it!!! There were tons of junk and machinery to sell before they got to it!!! Didn?t stick around to see it sell and never heard what it brought, wish I would have waited, only one I ever seen around here!! Am working on a 101 sr now and it uses the same continental 6 cyl motor, nice smooth running engine!!!! Would like to add a 44-6 to my collection!!

A friend has one that he bought for pulling competitions. He did pretty well with it. He transitioned to that from an MF 135.
