Didn't that have a paper disc and pens to record speed and time? School buses had them when I was small as a record of drivers actions.

geeze been long time since I have seen one, used them for years there is a round paper disc you put in it and shut the door, it will record your speed, stops and miles drive the disc has 1 thru 24 on it if it is 800 am nd you start driving it will scribe, a fine line on card how fast you were driving shows slow down nd stops, they were called tattle tales

Hello SVcummins,

If you look real close there are two spring loaded pins pressing against the recording chart. One records R.P.M.'s the other the M.P.H.

Thetd is also a needle that records time. Our trucks would do 56mph @1800 rpm's. Some smart drivers? Would bent the rpm needle to go faster. Rpm's gave them away,

Guido.

They had a circular piece of coated paper that recorded the time and speed of the vehicle as it was scratched by the unit's stylus. UPS had them but now employs a newer electronic recorder to ensure that their drivers are 'towing the line'.

some things I left out, you had to wind them up at the beginning of your shift, the little red dot on the top right was a light that came on when you hit 55 miles and hour

also when you turn them in to the dispatcher he had a disc reader where he could quickly tell max speed and rpm they where still used into the 90s that I now of

Thanks for all the replies . I?ve never seen the paper disc that goes inside the thing it did look like one of the pens I guess it?s a pen is hooked to a switch that turns a red light on

The Army even had them on some of the trucks back in the 70's and 80's. They were even called tattle tails in the Army. Good friend joined about a year after I did to be a driver. He said they hardly ever used em.

I know the drivers hated em.

Now they have electronic logs. SIL drives for a company with those. He likes it.

The elogs are pretty crippling in my opinion now
when your day starts it starts even if you drive 15
miles park and don?t get loaded and sit around for
10 hours doing nothing
