So is scrap worthless these days ? I set some out by the road with a FREE SCRAP sign on it and 2 weeks later it is still there. Used to be it would be gone that day or next ?
Are you guys still having issues with people coming into your place and stealing it ? Not enough for me to mess around and haul it in. I'm going to try and put it in with my junk pick up and hope they take it.

Car bodies as 'mixed' are about $75.00 ton now, even after Chinese New Year over and factories normally wanting scrap- couple years back $200.00/ton. Cleaned lead, aluminum, platinum from Catalytic converters and cleaned steel stock fair price- rough/unclean 'scrap' with paint, rust, cadmium needing cleaning is down. old appliances, TVs with odd hazmat issues not worth gas to pickup, recyclers won't pay much if they have to clean it before balling, Chinese got picky last year with garbage in recylables. RN.

I recently found a scrap place much closer to me (30 miles) than the one I'd been going to (90 miles). Guess I best build my inventory while the gittin's good.

I retired from a large power utility in the southeast. In the last few years every fossil unit (coal burners) I worked on in SC & NC has been scrapped. Nothing but a concrete slab left and not that at most sites. Boilers, superstructures, turbines, condensers - a LOT of scrap hit the market in the last few years. The reason was the EPA cost were more than the units were worth just to have as a reserve fleet....we also now have no reserve power fleet.
