IH 3200 A skidsteer help

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum so not sure if I'm in the right place. I purchased a IH 3200 A skidsteer. The only thing is that the magneto needs to be rebuilt. I am going to take it to a place called link implement. The only question I have is, how in the world to I take it off???
Thanks,

Before you get too carried away, what makes you think the mag needs to be rebuilt? Did somebody actually troubleshoot it,and found the mag to be bad? Or,does it just have no spark
and you think it needs a major rework.I've ran into dozens of them over the years where people pulled them off to work on,and I would just find the points need attention.

My brother was the one who told me it needed rebuilt. I'm guessing that he did not troubleshoot it, I am just going off of what he said I know next to nothing of stuff like that. The points that is where the spark plug wire connect right?

Sorry for my stupid questions

Not a stupid question, asking it can be the difference between spending $5.or $500.if I remember right those tractors had a VH4D Wisconsin.(we sold them). But,I thought they had
battery/coil ignition, not a magneto. The points are under the cap,be it a distributer or mag.Are you sure it has a mag? How about a picture of what you are calling a mag.

I can tell you now that the model of the mag is FM x4B7A. (if it is a mag)
yes that is the engine in this one.
sadly i dont have a pic and its not at my place yet, but i will get a pic of it asap. below is a pic of the skidsteer if that helps at all.

I had one just like that and it should have a disturber not a mag. If I remember right mine had a wis VG4D engine. Take the cap off and file the points

Well, that does sound like a Fairbanks-Morse magneto number. It may have the point gap setting stamped inside of it,under the cap.Over the years anybody could have done most
anything to that machine.Just because the ones sold here in town were all coil ignition doesn't mean they were all built that way.I had an old Bobcat at my shop that had charging
problems, the Wisconsin system was very expensive so I put a mag on it.I didn't have lights on it,so once it was started it was done using juice.I used it around the garage all
the time,I might have had to charge the battery once in a while.Maybe three times a year.

2 bolts or a bolt & a nut hold it on. Find the pipe plug in the casting next to it & take it out. Then have a helper turn the engine until you see a x mark on a gear tooth. Take the cap off & see where the rotor is pointing. Remove the mag, get it fixed. Then install it so the rotor & x mark are the same & it will be back in time. Clear as mud???

Hi, I have a 3300B.

The 3200A should have a distributor, with battery ignition.
It should have a VH4D - 27 HP engine. The 3300B has the
VG4D.

Someone may have thrown a mag on it - maybe the flywheel
generation system was faulty. Or maybe it is a replacement
engine.

Anyway, are you sure its bad? Did he check the points?
Mags are rather robust - but points do get a non-conductive
film on them when engines sit. Also, grounding the mag
?shuts it off? - its not accidentally grounded?

Easy to remove - remove bolts, and pull out. take some
pictures, and be sure to put it back on the right way!

Just a comment on 3200 AorB--Only skid steer with bogie wheel type suspension. We had 3200 B and main Wisconsin engine problem as overheating as would burn a hole in flathead if fins not kept clean.

Definitely will keep my eye on that.

So my dad and I got the mag off. We had been in the process of redoing the wiring for the entire skidsteer as at some point it shorted out and burnt up. The problem turned out be that all of the wiring inside of the mag was burnt to a crisp. The points and rotor will also need replaced. Thank you all for your help.
