When you guys, and gals plant corn how much spacing is there between plants? When I planted my white corn It was dry farmed, and did real good. I planted the plants about 16 inches apart. That field is gone. I gave it to my daughter for her house. I am planting some corn at my house, where the plants will be watered. The seed pack says to plant 12 inches apart. Can I space the plants a little closer? Stan

If you are talking sweetcorn, I would say 8--12 inches. I plant the early patches at little over 20,000 seeds/acre since it does not all come up early on. From about now on, I will set it back to 17--18 K so it can still make a good ear if it turns off a little dry.

Yes, I know on good soil with adequate rain you can plant it considerably thicker and it will still make corn. But the seed is kind of pricey, so I like to give each kernel the best chance to make a marketable ear, which means they need their space. I will grow about 10 acres of sweetcorn this year, and I have the ability to water probably half of it, but it is time consuming and costly to do so. Usually end up with at least a couple dry spells where water really makes a difference.

Sweet corn and field corn are 2 entirely different things so what is good for field is not good for sweet. And then row width makes a difference on seed spacing in row. Wat width row does the package say? some would be good at 30" row others want 36" row spacing. But a wider row spacing can stand plants a bit closer in row than narrower rows
