My favorite place for morning coffee

Finally have a day fit to sit on the deck and enjoy the sunrise! Even Baxter came to watch with me. Been so cold and wet there haven't been any good mornings to enjoy it. I think I'll be able to get in the field today and do some planting, so not much time for lollygagging. Went out and tried to disc some yesterday, but had to leave the disc behind in a wet spot, but I hope it will go today. Looks like a nice week for us here.

My favorite part of the day. Sitting in the morning sun drinking coffee. Havn't had too many mornings that have been warm enough to enjoy it yet.

Nice looking farm you have ! Raining here in central N.Y. again . Really like the barn picture. Do you have any inside the loft pictures ? Unilam is a company that made similar trusses is our area and dates back to early 1900?s silo building. Also known as Unadilla Silo Company.

Jon, just an idle speculation observation, but it kind of looks like getting away from owner-operating was a good move for you.

Here is an old photo of Unadilla Silo Company . Unadilla New York is also homered of Globe Silo company and York equipment company.

This is a Lester barn, they were very popular here. The wall are unitized and come lined and insulated. Very quick to assemble.

Jon looks like you just need some cows and you can start milking! Just remember what an old timer told me ?Don?t get more cows than your wife can milk?! Bruce must of got the memo!

The only thing I miss about it
is meeting all the YT folks
along the way, and a little
about seeing the country.
Deffinately make more money
now, and love being home.

To fully appreciate the joys of farming, you need to fire up that dairy operation again so you can start losing some serious money!

Very nice jon! I look at your empty dairy barn and think, man that would have been a great setup in the sixties. And your Case equipment matches the farm too. Shame a guy can?t make a decent return farming on that scale nowadays. That stable full of milk cows would be a nice place for morning coffee too. Bruce

Good grief Jon, looks like Mrs. Jon had you bring as many rocks to The Kingdom as Mrs. KCM talked [i:75169fdc84]me[/i:75169fdc84] into. ....Must be a Minnesota thing?? *lol*

If I remember correctly, those kind of rafters were advertised as RILCO here in NE Iowa. Leo

In central Ohio - Rilco was a brand of gothic shaped glued up rafters. My Dad went to look at one before he made drawings for the barn he constructed.
We cut 1x8s 8' long in the sawmill from trees cleared by crick and river dredging. Then one edge of the 1x8 was cut curved to match the arch - with a 12" Delta
bandsaw. My Dad could cut one or two as each cow got milked - then move the milkers and cut another 1 or 2.
We nailed them into rafters - two "thick"- overlapping the 8' in the middle, and then flopping the rafter over and clinching the protruding nails.
The last 8' was straight so the peak of the roof would shed rain and snow better.

My brother still has that bandsaw in working condition.

Jon,

I see you like to collect unusual rocks.
I am curious about one particular one; the second one on the right from your right foot.
I have a smaller one similar to it which I thought might be a meteorite.
After having done some research, I found that it is apparently a "meteorwrong". LOL
Anyway, the one I have is extraordinarily heavy for its size and although it does not attract a magnet, it is a conductor of electricity.

My shop was built from Glued and cut laminated rafters, also, perfectly straight cross the roof line yet, it don't creek when it's windy either! I think mine are the Ralco rafter, made in central Minn.

Just wondering, how often do you have to water those plants there on the porch railing. I think I prefer them to the flowers my wife has here. Sure wish I had a barn like that here. Keith

My first thought was Nelson"s in Clearwater, but I"m good to go with the boot up on your railing...looks pretty comfy...what time is coffee on?

Coffee is always on by 7, but usually well before that. Come by and get some any time, just being a caramel roll with.
