I have a MF 150 with independent PTO, also with ground speed PTO.The independent PTO is 540 mowing?rpm. What rpm is the ground speed pto relative to the 540 rpm of the independent PTO? I have a mower that I would like to spin faster then the 540 rpm. Would groundspeed PTO do this at the same speed?
 
Ground speed is what it says, it is revelant to how fast your ground speed it think there some planters that used this it is not for mowers. You should be able to get 540 rpm from the regular pto and that is as fast and any pto operated implement should be run unless it is designed for 1000 rpm and that is whole another thing
 
Here is what my MF 35 owners manual says about the PTO function. I suspect that the MF 150 is quite similar.
"Engine PTO" is the standard or proportional engine-speed drive. With the engine at 1700 RPM, the PTO speed is 540 RPM.

"Ground PTO" is a proportional ground speed drive. The PTO turns one revolution for about each twenty inches of forward travel regardless of speed or gear. Ground PTO" is very useful with side rakes, lister planters, etc."

Hope this helps. I suspect that you can not use "Ground PTO" to get a higher (than 540 RPM) PTO speed) (unless you drive very fast). You could run the engine at a higher RPM (use "Engine PTO") and a lower gear (to keep the ground speed acceptable) to get more than 540 PTO RPM. For example, at an engine speed of 2000 RPM, the PTO speed would be (2000 / 1700) times 540 = 635 RPM.

Note that the Nebraska tractor test for the MF 150 says that for the three cylinder Diesel engine, an engine speed of 1700 RPM is needed to get 540 PTO RPM.
 
Your tractor should have 540 PTO speed at 1700 engine RPM, for the two stage clutch system LIVE PTO. Tractors with the independent hydraulic PTO clutch did not have ground drive option, which was mainly for hay rakes.
 
Ground speed was a slower RPM than when shifted to the two stage clutch setting. Mostly used the ground speed and 2nd gear high range with a PTO hay rake with a similar model.
 
Thanks for this information, I believe it's what I've been looking for. This is the first tractor I've had with this ground speed PTO. I'll mow with the 540 rpm PTO.
