Looking for two 5.50x16 ag tires to go on an old planter I need the lug pattern like a rear tractor tire.

What do you think is the reason for needing the lug type of tire? You do not need the lug type for operation of a planter Now if it is to move that unit your planter is made with then I still do not see a need for them.

Leroy, there is a good possibility that if the tires are not cleated, they would skid instead of turn the mechanism of the planter, most planters are ground-driven.

Check with your local tire dealer. Two years ago I purchased that or a similar size for a planter tire locally. On the planter it was for the seed drive as the clutch lift just used a 5 rib implement type tread.

I had 4 row ground drive and there was not enough pull on those tires if the whole plsanter locked up you could not slide those tires. It would break things before it would slide a tire. And the outfit he has is only a 1 row not a 4 row. And a lot of 2 wheel walking garden tractors did not have the traction typr tread of a tire.

This probably a homemade planter it's a one row with JD seed hopper and gearbox it is similar to a walk behind David Bradley plow.

And most of the David Bradley were sold without tires and buyer just put on old used tires he had that were taken off the family car as being no good for road anymore on. And in those years there were no snow tires for cars.

Finding that knobby tread now would be very hard to do. Those tires were extra cost on those garden tractors and David Bradly had went to a 15" wheel by 1954 so ant tires from them would be at least 65 years old. If he has enough sidewall clearance he could use a moden size car tire to pull it from the scrap tire pile at dealer that is without enough tread to be on road.
