Saw this on Fox this morning. Guy named C. Ivan Stolzfus riding his A Deere and pulling his camper across America to raise money for the Vets. Neat story-the cab is off of a Peterbuilt truck--Tee

I noticed his rear tires on backwards. I went out to some other websites and in some photos, they are backwards and in some, forward. Do they wear better on asphalt like that? Maybe swapping them out to wear better?

Yes, Ivan is from around the York/ Lancaster PA area and has been doing this for a few years now. The website Dan references probably tells how many times he made the trip across the country. I saw a picture of his rig a few years ago and the tires were on correctly.

Years ago, cleated tires were often marked with an arrow, "traction" in forward direction, and anther word (I forgot) in the reversed position.

I can't imagine how miserable it would be listening to that A pop, bang, and hammer away thru dual straight pipes for close to 3000 miles at 15 mph.

Our club helped put this tractor together. He can switch between pipes, one is straight, the other has a muffler. He normally uses the pipe with the muffler, he can switch from inside the cab. This is his third trip, he learned on the first one the tires last much longer running backwards on blacktop, they're radials. This year he'll have AC in the cab. He's been over the rockies with the rig, has some interesting tails to tell. Often has a police escort, they volunteer to escort him. Ever nickel he collects goes to the cause. Leaves on his next trip on May 11. If you have a chance to see him or speak to him you'll be impressed with his humble nature and dedication.

Dieseltech puts a lot of miles on his Farmall yearly. He has a pair of rear tires that have a center rib that he says work really well on the asphalt. I'd like to hear him explain again what kind of tire he's running.

I would not have thought that a truck cab would fit on there. They did a good job.

I wonder if he has an auxillary fuel tank somewhere.

There is an auxiliary fuel tank on the camper, it's set up with an electric pump. He can top off the tractor tank as needed.
