3 point hitch wouldn't lift so we changed the fluid. Got over 7 gallons of water and oil out of it. Cleaned it fairly good added fresh oil and lift works! Put a new alternator on it ,no charge? Started changing wires and found that one stud on amp gauge had rusted off. New gauge, new wires and it's charging! Also flushed cooling system. Next it's the smoking issue. Will start with some 50 weight oil. I put 20 weight in it. Also has a bottle of marvel mystery oil in it, that stuff is as thin as water. Great running tractor ,just a nasty smoking habit! My wife thinks it's a cute little tractor, I guess it gets to stay!

Would the fluid being so over filled cause the axle seal to leak? That tire was flat and on a slight down hill for a couple years.....if so will it continue to leak now that we have correct amount of fluid in it?

Axle seal probably won't get any better, not that hard to change if you have some mechanical skills,As far as smoking, you may just have some stuck rings if the tractor sat that long,20 to 30 weight oil with Marvel might help or a combo of oil and trans. fluid.Overhaul in a bottle is not available to my knowledge.

I believe the correct amount of fluid is 4.5 gals. If the seals leak at that level try some sure seals, With years of use, seals on the axles won't last forever.

I looks like it smokes about like the neighbors 851 does. If I where you I would run it till good and warm an drain that 20W oil out and PuT IN 20w-50 O'REILLY'S BRAND OIL AND i BET IT WILL NOT SMOKE AS MUCh

Add a quart of ATF to you next fuel fill, and the same to the oil. It will help lube the valves and maybe loosen up some rings. HTH
