First Day of Anhydrous

Got in my first day of applying anhydrous today. Cold and windy but warm with the sun shining into the cab windows. Not a big day but got the first 112 acre field done. Nice scenery so I shot some pictures and video.

We have those portable tanks delivered. Does your supplier always give you curb service like that for refills ? What will be planted in that field ? Enjoyed the video ?

Yes, they bring me the tank (rental) and come out to refill it whenever I need it. Standard procedure in this area.
I'll be planting wheat on that field.

I sold my Western Star this spring, and that's what I'm doing this spring and fall, running anhydrous ammonia tender truck. Sadly, I'm driving a Freightliner, not a Pete. With ammonia, you sure learn in a real hurry to stand upwind!

Yes, I hate the wind normally but when working with anhydrous some wind is a good thing. I think that Pete is a 1985 model according to the driver.

Sure looks like that way could be a lot of wait time at times, my area the wagon tanks now are double tank units that they keep bringing when you are applying it ther is usually always another full double sitting at end of field. I sure do not miss messing with that stuff nowdays, I rent all my land out an make a profit every year now instead of about 3 out of five if lucky, this year and last not much there for profit if any. several had trouble getting input money. 650- 800 dollars ton in my area whats it there. have fun and be careful!!!

I had a tandem tank LP truck converted to NH3. Used it for 10 years until the old ferd gave up the ghost.

No wait time here. I phone to let them know when I'll need a refill and generally the truck will be there waiting for me at the location I specified. The big guys run the double tanks behind their 80 foot air drills but I'm just a small hobby farmer nowadays. I believe the NH3 was quoted at $990 a tonne here. Highest I've seen it in a while (maybe ever).

Where you at Rusty? Im just north of Craven. Dry and cold here. Waiting for some warm weather so we can start burn off. Maybe end of the week. Good luck with the seeding.

Not that far apart. North of Fort Q. Quite a few going here already but have not seen any sprayers yet. Too cold.
