Changed some plow shares and landsides today. Cut my fingers on the worn bolt heads as always of course. They are as sharp as razor blades.

I have some of those wounds also. Now days, I torch off the nuts and bolts. Much quicker and easier. Now how
do I repair the hole on my shoe from stepping on a red hot remains of a nut??? HeHe

years ago, we were changing cutting edge, co-worker was using impact when bolt
began to spin. without thinking, he reached around to hold it-----

ACG I have stepped on a few red hot plow nuts too. My soles are thick so I usually hear a sizzling sound before I feel anything! A year or two ago I was torching a nut off of a part for one of the plows and a lucky molten ember made it down on the tongue of my boot. I didnt notice it at first thinking that the leather boots would repel the small bits coming off the plow. Well the tongue is made of nylon... It started as a slight sting and grew very quickly in intensity. I looked down and smoke/fire was rising from my boot. I almost threw the still burning torch and began ripping at my boot to get it off!

If I?m in the field I use a hacksaw to cut the one flat
off the nut then use a chisel to break the nut off then
drive bolt through sometimes I use the die grinder

On the chisel plow I use a portaband saw. Another trick is I hard surface a ring around bolt head area so it does not get as much wear and most of the time the bolt come right out.

I?d like a portaband some day . I bought some hacksaw blades from John Deere that cost about 12$ each I?ve cut hardened steel with them and they make short work or plow bolts I?d almost rather hacksaw than use the die grinder .

I have that familiar horseshoe shaped scar on my left pointer finger too. We only do it once. Now I press on the bolt head with a pliers. It usually works.
