i Have a 4230 that when I lift the loader at idle the thing almost acts like a jack hammer. I changed the filter already with no change. Is this a sign that my pump is shot?? When I rev the tractor to 1500-2000 it smooth's out
thanks

Ditto on checking sump screen. How long since hyd filter was changed? I'll also suggest to check hyd stand-by pressure. What type valve controls loader(scv or ind)?

Filter was changed yesterday. 1 year ago before that. It is a after market joy stick installed by John
Deere. Where and how Do I find the sump screen?
Thanks

Hyd sump screen is located behind square indented plug in photo below. One needs to drain trans oil or insert nozzle of operating shop vacuum in hyd filler hole with any excess of opening blocked off with shop towel. How is JS valve plumbed to tractor hyd's?

Just because a dealer installed the valve does not mean that it is the "correct" valve...be sure it is not letting oil through it when the valve is centered...also if the valve has a pressure relief on it it is most likely set for about 1800 psi,,you should be producing 2250 psi,, so the valve would be letting oil past,,,screw the relief valve down tight it is not needed.

Thanks for all the info. Just to let you know it worked great till 4 days ago. I've had the tractor 3 years.

I will check the screen first.

My brother thought it might be one piston on the pump has fallen apart. I will check the cheap things first before going after pump. Do these tractors have a lift pump?

I seriously doubt piston in frt pump "fell out" out of bore.

Keep in mind many frt hyd pumps have been replaced for hyd failures only to determine that the replaced pump was ""not at fault"".

Majority of CC hyd failures are caused by lack of supply oil or high pressure internal leaks
