Weekend work around the kingdom

Finally got everything ready for planting, I think. Started by bringing more stuff home from where it was stored. I'll use the cultivator this summer I hope, I will change it to 4 wide.

Also brought home the last of the "stuff". There is a couple mowers on there, a potato lifter/sorter, a couple mounted cultivators, and some parts.

Then I replaced the cylinder on the plow I picked up last Monday. Thought I might get to try it out this weekend, but it got cool and cloudy so it didn't dry out much. The cylinder on it was leaking badly, of course it was an IH. Lol. I replaced it with a much better case cylinder.

Sunday I decided to put seed in the planters to make sure they actually work. Good thing too as there were issues. Lol. The corn planter was putting out way too much seed. So I rechecked everything and it should have been right. The seed bag gave the plate number and that was right. So I took one of the seed units completely apart and found there are more moving parts inside I couldn't see that we're stuck. So all the plate units were taken completely apart and gone over. But that didn't fix the problem. And I don't have a lot of experience with plate type planters, so I called in an expert, my friend Jeff. He took one look and said I had the wrong plates. The seed company listed the seed as being in the large side of medium flat seed. The plate that fit the seed was small extra thin. Lol. So anyway with that change everything works as it should and the rate I wanted is right on. Just for your info, the check rate on corn with a 38" row planter you count the seeds in 12'9" of row and that's how many thousand per acre you will have.

The drill worked good once I set it for the seed size I have.

I even got a chance to take a pic of the crew.

When I started putting them there they we're in the sun, but by the time I was ready to take the pic they we're in the shadow of the barn. Oh well, I'll take another some day.

Now if things would just dry out so I can use them. Getting some rain today, but maybe later in the week.

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, I was kinda busy at work. I've had the crawler for a long time. It's an ag crawler. I bought it with a bad undercarriage. Then it sat long enough the engine stuck. So I pulled the engine down and sent the crank and head to be rebuilt. But before he got it done he passed away and his wife sold everything on auction. My head and crank are likely a Toyota by now. So now I'm looking for an engine for it.

They used to grade seed differently. A plate listed for a large seed the seed now listed for a large plate will fit more correctly in a medium size plate and you could not find a kernel the size for that large plate.
