...there was a really nice one on the side of the road on my trip yesterday. A very nice 1586 IH caught my eye, but I already have one of those so no problem there. I almost missed the Oliver sitting in the yard next door. Now this is a dangerous situation...because I had an empty trailer on the back and cash in my pocket. Don't know how much they were asking. It looked like one of those little utilities that I like so much...550? Heavy looking grill with the big squares? I was tight on time so I did not go back. The money was for the bean head and I knew there wasn't gonna be room on the trailer for both. Pretty sure with nice paint job it was not the tractor for me anyhow. It was north of Three Rivers, not sure what road. I could try to retrace my route but it would be all guesswork.

If you are talking 55 or 550 they are nice tractors. Little more refined than a Ford. Both RR and I have one.

Sounds like a later 550. Do I need to come down and twist your arm to go back and get it? LOL

I bought my Super 55 down by Mendon, just back east of Three Rivers.

if i bought an ollie, it would have to be an 1850 with a cab. always liked the looks of that tractor.

It wouldn't take much arm twisting. Just the right day and the right price! There is one at Oakley every year that is pretty much immaculate. Don't recall seeing it last year but I may have missed it. I look at that tractor every year and think about what a nice project that would be. Should have at least stopped and seen how much this one was though. Sure looked nice from the road.

Dave that is a later one Checkerboard grill. There were some differences over the years like pto lever, engine size etc. They were sold as white 244 and cockshutt version too. Not wholly sure of the farming you do (if the size would be any good to you)but they are a nice tractor.

I figure that is got to be close in size to my IH 300 utility. I use that tractor all the time. Only down side to it is won't start if there has been cold weather. Won't even try and I have never been able to diagnose the issue.

Yes close in size the 300 and 350 not to bad a machine themselves. In cold weather I would wonder about a compression ratio or compression issue? The ones I see were gas about like a farmall h or 300 engine and would start at drop of a hat. I will say one while the oliver 550 was overpriced but I think they may have come down some. People triedto get $4-6000 for them!!!

There's a jockey here who's got what he's advertising as a "restored" 550. He's asking $9900 for that one. That's insane. The highest one I saw prior to that was a 75 model with some crazy low hours and all the bells and whistles for $7500.
