Finally found a 1020 head. 16' so I can pull it into the shop while still on the combine when I am doing the repairs the seller declined to mention. We all know there will be repairs..LOL. This thing looks to be in decent shape, has new sections, wobble bearings appear tight. It was 4 hours from home in Indiana. Price was about $1400 less than the last three that sold at auction up this way. They opened a Portillos restaurant north of South Bend. The entire family volunteered to help when I casually mentioned I was going to lunch there. That put the PU out of the running so I had to take the Flex. Very nice vehicle to travel in and pulls 6K at the hitch so nice for a smaller load. Left the header trailer home and took the car hauler with lots of cribbing...another good choice. Had a nice visit with seller. Loaded it, tied it down and checked the tires. One stop to adjust the straps about 5 miles out and then, 10.5 hours after I left that AM, we were home.

I was amazed at how much field work appears to be done in SW Michigan and Indiana. We are under water here and not even thinking about it yet. It snowed on us while we were heading down. Also amazed at how many center pivots I saw in SW Michigan. Huge setups covering a lot of acreage but I even saw what must have been 2-3 acres with one section set up in it. Seems like a lot of $$$ and you would not think we needed that much irrigation here? Must be the soil is a lot sandier over that way or ???? Curious.

Glad you had a safe and successful trip. I'm 100 miles south of South Bend and nothing has been done in this area. Water standing in every field. Northern IN soil has a lot more sand and lighter than central IN soil. Our local soil is Brookston with a lot of heavy clay. Great dirt but slow to drain and dry out. Chance of rain 12 out of the next 15 days. We can plant a lot per day but still need warm dry soil. All equipment is ready to go when the weather will cooperate. I would be happy to get the yard mowed.

In southern Indiana we have high sand as well as some wet clay. Not much dirt has been turned and the river is still out in alot of fields. Most years were done with corn by now.

Hey 4520-Have you seen my German U-boat lately? How is Lake Scott doing? We are still wet here-got 3 inches of wet snow yesterday but it is all melted today.--Good Luck---Tee

No u boats, they have trouble going through all the corn fodder piled up. The river close to me should be down by Tuesday but down by Scott's it will be a few more days. Rain is in the forecast for the next week, gives me time to rebuild a cylinder on the finisher and replace a hose on the turbo till.
