Looking to put a different engines in my case vac and my allis chalmer wd45 would like to know what I could swap them out with also I have a starter that spines backwards as well don?t understand why.

I see no good reason to install a different engine in either tractor. The WD-45 was over powered for its weight, and the engine was the best feature of the WD-45. Many owners went to a 4.125 bore , but the increase was not needed. I do not know about the VAC except it was a long life engine. There is no practical swap unless you want to go diesel or for pulling.

I am not sure exactly what your asking? Different meaning same type engine from something else? If so you can swap in a 226 CI engine from a Gleaner E combine, D17 or 170 engine into the WD45 for a slight power increase or a 201 CI engine from a WD or WC which will be a power decrease. That pretty much covers the bolt in swaps. If by different you mean an entirely different type of engine then that's up to your imagination and level of skills as any of them is going to require a good amount of thinking, custom fabrication and machine shop work. Can't help you with the Case.

Starter rotation is not easily reversed, if it has recently been rebuilt and the rebuilder incorrectly installed the fields or brush holder it will run backwards. If it was built to run the other direction and you want to reverse it you must also change the drive. Some starters are easily reversed, some are not.

(quoted from post at 05:48:19 04/27/19) I would like a diesel what would work it in

There was a diesel engine available for the WD45. It was rather problematic if I remember right.

Why do you want to swap to diesel? Unless you are working the snot out of those tractors on a daily basis, there is no real cost savings between diesel and gasoline. Plus, the gasoline engines will start right up anytime you need them.

Allis WD45 has starter behind flywheel. it turns different direction than starters which mount ahead of flywheel as most engines.

A friend put a Ford 300-6 into his Oliver 70 and all the guys are putting DT466s in their Farmalls.
