Planting tatters

Finished planting 7 rows of potatoes in the garden before the rain gets here. I use the middle buster
point and adjust the top link as short as possible. The supervisor doesn?t eat potatoes but found a
couple of buried bones.

Please try this method and report back to us. Ruth Stout gardening method. Use old hay or straw and just cover them up. One of my friends tryed it but he didn't have enough straw. It did grow but not enough water low moisture.

I'm giving up on the potatoes this year, tired of fighting the bugs, can't find anything to even slow them down anymore.

David said the right thing. You need to BURY them in hay. Also the hay should be pre treated with some fertilizer and soak it with water. Here is another video of a deep layer of hay. You need to water your garden now and then.

Here is another video. You want to build UP your soil. Sure you can get enough hay bales if they get wet or moldy. The more the better. Then add some MORE hay!!!

Right David. My mom would have my dad dump part of a wagon load of chopped hay at the edge of the garden and me my sister and mom would pile the mulch on. Now watching these videos it should have been green chop and TONS of it. In early spring I would try rototilling it under and really build up your soil. The Incas used to make farm plots of super soil. Even hundreds of years later it is STILL super rich. Here is a guy makeing his own super soil with everything but the kitchen sink.

The sod Chunks are the grass and weeds that overwinter. I don?t have a 1 bottom plow so use a Dearborn spring tooth cultivator to rip up the soil. Then run a walk behind tiller to smooth things up. It has been too wet to till much and getting late to get these planted. So, in they go and maybe till lightly on Monday.

Looks good. I planted taters today as well. Didn't do as many this year. Only 20# of seed.

Its a little early to plant here. Even for me. I'll usually get a start the last week in April and might plant my last row a month later. Might be later this year as I pushed a lot of snow onto the garden patch a month or so ago and its taking forever to melt. Partially covered in grass clippings.
Bugs are not too bad here. I've always been able to keep them under control by hand picking.

There are insecticides that you can incorparate in to your trench when planting potatoes that will take care of you bug problem for the growing season, Admire is one and the other is Brigadier I think I am right on this if memory serves.
