Any you guys ever deal with pond algae never had a problem in the past. It's the type that reminds you of a fishing net you pull it and it just keeps coming in thanks

What do you want to do? Eliminate it or just control it? I have heard an old wives tale of using barley straw to get rid of algae in ponds. Don't know if it works or not.

Barley is used to clear dirty water, I don t think it helps with algea. Local TSC should carry copper sulfate.

I've been treating aquatic weeds for 30 years. A lot of them look alike. Get a sample in a jar of water to your county agent's office for a positive ID. Then follow the directions given you by your state university. Ignore all of the wives tales and advice by your well meaning friends.

Copper sulphate does the trick but I had some overspray of 2-4D the other day getting close in weeds around my pond and guess what. After about a week, where I had overspray it decided to turn brown and sink. Nice thing about this time of the year is that there is enough rain to keep the Oxygen level up so you don't have a large fish killoff like happens with weed control in the summer. You do want to leave some of it as "fry" thrive on it.

Barley straw flakes around the shoreline. Hard to find. Needs applied early, now is the best time to apply. Co. agent may know where some is located.

Been using sterile grass carp for years in our pond.
Could not fish in it until I got the carp. Now it stays clear. Just need to get new ones every few years.
They are not expensive and the local feed and seed store has a fish day a couple of times a year.
