HELP - JD 4440 seat cushion replacement - HELP

In replacing the entire cab interior including the headliner nothing has been as difficult as bolting a new seat cushion back in. This tractor has a hydraulic seat and I have been working on it with it raised up. All I need to do is insert and tighten four bolts going up from the seat suspension into the bottom steel shell of the new seat. I was warned it is hard. You can't really see anything and you can hardly get your hand up in there. Plus, having the holes lined up exactly is nearly impossible. I am thinking I need to screw in four bolts with the heads cut off into the seat shell as "lineup" bolts. Then take the bolts out one at a time and replace them with the original hex bolts. Any one have any other ideas in making this outwardly simple project easier???? I want to get this finished tomorrow morning so I might post over on the John Deere forum as well. Thanks.

Actually I had done that with some ready rod I had around. The problem was the treads where it had been cut with a hacksaw weren't the best and when putting on the nuts it wanted to turn the "stud" inward. I guess I could take a chisel to the threads so the stud would get tight in the bottom of the metal seat.

Remove the swivel and entire seat from the top of the suspension. Slide the seat forward and remove the back two bolts, then rearward and remove the front. Take the seat cushion, arm rest and back out of the cab in one piece. Cushion easy to replace then.

When I did mine I took 4 bolts out that hold the suspension out. They have welded nuts bolts point down then put the cushion on it while it is upside down and put it back together . The back bolts you will need the seat slid ahead and front bolts slide the seat back.

Go to the local hardware store and get studs screw em in then put nuts on. The secret to cutting the bolts off is run the nut on past where you are cutting then cut then run the nut off and it will make the threads good

If you use the stud method when you cut the bolts take a file and smooth off the end some and your threads will work fine. Just check them before you put them in. Then with some lock tite it will hold them from turning in about an hour. Permetex will work also.

I finally pulled the next layer of metal off of the hydraulic suspension and bolted the seat cushion to that. Then bolted these two pieces to the hydraulic suspension. It still wasn't easy, but it worked. Thanks for all of the ideas.
