I hate to see old tractors get scrapped if someone can save them. So my buddy gets a call and we go up to look at a ford 860. While there I see an old fordson in rough shape. When I asked about it Owner sez it's going to be scrapped. I said I have no interest in it but would take a couple of photos and post it on the fordson group in case somebody wanted it for parts at the price of scrap. I stated in the post I have no interest in the tractor and that I was not going to go up there to pick parts off it and mail them to you.I posted shots of tractor from all sides so somebody could see if they want to my the trip. Got a ton of question about this and that on the tractor. Said I would look at it again when I go up there the following week. Couple of guys send me a message and I gave them the phone number. Can't say what was said to the owner, something about picking parts of it or can they load it on there trailer. The owner is a 65 year old over weight woman who's downsizing the farm. Next thing I know some guy on the forum is calling me "pretty slick, see how much interest there is in parts and then go up and get the tractor to part it out" So I'm done post about tractors for sale cheap or going for scrap. Went up and winched the 860 and a three bottom 101 plow. Also went to pickup a worthington I bought from another owner who had a complete Allis WC he was going to scrap. I normally would have posted it on the AC forum but after the last comment didn't bother. It bought $238 at the scrap yard. Parts were worth a lot more than that. My point is, now I know why people just call the scrapman so they don't have to deal with all the BS.Picture was not on this farm but I'm sure many of old farms went this way.

I hear you Kirk and I?m sorry you had to deal with that. You were trying to do the right thing and got flamed by internet trolls in the process. Chances are the one making the comment was wishing he was there to pick it up and part it out to make a quick easy buck and tried to make you feel bad. I would have just let it go for scrap at that point too. 99% of people you encounter in life are decent and reasonable but it only takes the 1% to take the enjoyment out of helping others. Those 1% feel like the world owes them something and prey on the good people doing a good thing like yourself.

Hey Kirk-NJ please don't let some POS define you or stop you from doing what you think is best! Please continue!

A person has to decide for them self what type of person they wish to be. Why listen to the people who don't mean a thing to you? I understand your position though. I have spend two days trying to figure out why seeming intelligent people could or would allow a good idea to be implemented. Some times a person has to just let it go.

Kirk, I feel the same way you do on old tractors, I have come to realize two things.

You can't save them all!

The more they scrap, the more the survivors are worth!

I understand completely your disdain of how people can be so inconsiderate and aggravating. We run into the same circumstances whether over a pound of produce, some hay, or a piece of equipment. I am convinced some folks make it their hobby.

I understand, there was a rant on a guy here the other day that was almost enough to just say goodbye to this board. Nobody would care if I left but the faster the users go down the faster the board will go away

So you posted it on the Fordson forum here at YT? Too bad it turned out like that, sometimes a guy is better to not even get involved in the first place, what starts up being a favor (or so you think) ends up being a bad experience. Actually, I have read a lot of seriously negative criticisms here on the YT site over the years. Yours would have been in the middle of the pack, some have been downright nasty and ugly. Like many have said, move along. Sometimes what we think is a gold mine of parts ends up being a pile of scrap iron so maybe that's the best way to go in the first place.

If you really wanted to save them, it may have been better to have bought what you thought should be saved, haul them home and then resell them yourself. Often salvaged parts barely bring more than scrap price and you get nothing for your time.

So one guy says something, would be no big deal to me.Think if it'd been me I'd of asked the lady if she was interested in other people calling her about the tractor,if she said yes then
I'd of just posted the information and her number. If she said no then I'd of either bought the tractor or just let it be.

I just hauled 5 more n fords to the scrap yard this past week. That's 5 more that won't kill or maim someone. Don't bother asking the guy running the clam bucket already has them on the rail car. As far as the statement "the more that go to scrap, the higher priced the remaining ones become." not quite true. Running n fords are bringing 500.00 to 700.00 at auction around here. Down from the 1500 to 1800.00 they used to bring.

I'm sorry it happened but it's not just scrap tractors or parts, it's everywhere. Uninformed, know-it-all people that are too stupid to keep their mouth shut. Just move on, and btw, thanks for trying to help. Scrap yards that will sell anything are getting few and far between.
