Rainy Day And An Antique

Kind of a showery cool day yesterday so I did a little cleaning up and inspection of an old floor lamp that has been in storage here for a few years. I'm guessing it is 1950s vintage with a tri-light centre and three smaller lights around it. Its got as much chrome as some fifties cars had on them. I think its missing a piece of the shade support. Some video of it

Antique lamp

We had a very similar lamp at home. I still have it. My parents got it for a wedding present in 1951. Here are pictures of how the shade mounts- you need an inverted glass shade, then the silk shade. The glass piece is fairly common at antique shows or shops.Ours had those candle type bulbs, but they got replaced with a later type. Nice lamp. unc

Yes, yours looks kind of similar to the one I have here but I have not seen any sign of that inner glass globe. Maybe it got broken and thrown away at some point in the past. I see a small screw hole in the base metal where the light bulb screws in as if something might have attached there.

(quoted from post at 00:27:48 04/16/19) The cows are in good shape, Funny they don't knock you down!
They are so well fed that they don't get too excited even for a pail of oat chop. Only 4 cows and the bull so there is plenty of feed to go around. They are mostly out looking for new grass but its slow coming up.

Sorry, don't want to hijack the post- yes, those are Royal Doulton Toby mugs in the picture. Mom collected about 200 over the years. unc

Had another look for that missing glass globe for the antique lamp today. I did not find it but did come up with some other interesting glass. These are telephone line insulators. Used to be common here before the lines went underground. That green one is a "Hemmingray" made in the USA.

Yes I do. I think there is a way to private message on this forum but I can't find it. That way I could give you my postoffice box number and postal code without putting it on here for all the world to see.

Those creepy lights and your old Mercury remind me of when I used build plastic model cars growing up, this was one of my favorites :) :

I built quite a few of those AMT model kits too. Boot Hill Express is one that comes to mind. Now I'm strictly stock when it comes to the real cars :)

Yes, AMT kits were my favorite. I'd sure like to have a classic car like that Merc to restore, had a couple of '67/69 Camaros back in the day. Oh well ... my '67 Oliver will have to do.

(quoted from post at 20:16:51 04/16/19) I think I can make it work. I'll send a letter off this week. unc

Hey Unc, just wanted to say I received your mail package and appreciate it very much. Thanks a lot. I didn't know you were in Canada too.
