What did I just do?

Windows 10,Microsoft Edge,desktop computer with a mouse. I was reading a post on here,slid the curser up the side to go back to the top of the post. The top bar on the screen turned purple. I tried clicking on things and it left a blue dot. I moved the mouse and it drew a blue line. Kinda neat,but it wouldn't let me do anything else. It just kept leaving blue dots wherever I clicked.

I clicked an X in the right hand corner and it got rid of it,but how do I do it again if I want to use that feature? I can see where it could be a lot of fun if I could find it when I want to.

In the top right hand corner beside the fav star there is a pen looking thing click on that and it does what you said yours did. I don't know what it is for but I did the same thing

I never played in those boxes there but my clicking on the first one in the purple bar it will let you change colors of that line

That's the Add Notes feature. I never used it but now at least I know what it's for. Click the X in the purple bar and it goes away.

Microsoft Edge was a total mystery to me. Couldn't make heads or tails out of it, so I downloaded FireFox.

Cool. Now,when I circle or underline something in a post,how do I get it to stick,get that feature to go away by clicking the X and post it as amended? When I click the X,it asks me if I want to save it,then it just keeps taking me in circles doing the same thing over and over and I can't clear the program so I can post.

I am not sure you can make these edits online and save them. I would take the thing you're trying to doctor up-- text, photo or whatever and put it into a word document or someplace where you can change it on your desktop computer. Then you can play around with it, save the changes and put it back into a post here if you want to. I'm not very good at explaining computer stuff because I have a fairly tenuous grasp on all of this myself.
