McCormick-Deering in da yard

I like these sickle mowers, saw this one on a local road yesterday.
Just thinking out loud:

Would this sickle ever be hooked to a Fordson tractor? I'd like that combo as piece of yard art but since I don't have either of those pieces yet it's just pie-in-the-sky for now. Want to display something authentic. I do have McCormick-Deering two bottom plow end of the driveway and it looks good. Address is hanging on it.

Quite a few of those horse-drawn mowers did get the tongues shortened up and adapted to pull behind a tractor, but still needed an operator riding on the mower.

A Fordson would be as good a choice as any.

Heck NO!!! take it to an auction in Amish country. You would be suprised what a
horse mower goes for. They will bid on it wi5h wads of money in their hands.

Thanks, I thought this was a horse-drawn piece but wasn't sure. saw one that was the same or similar at a demonstration.

Probably horse drawn to begin with, but i spent a lot of my mis-spent youth on one of them behind a 1946 JD B. I was supposed to yell
BEFORE it clogged.

My parents had this mower (horse drawn)... hitched to their ford 8-N...

Neighbor once had the "SPRING METAL"that attaches to the SEAT brake,as the horses were hit by WASPS...

My grandfather DROVE HIM TO THE hospital......he had a several lacerated Scrotum!!!!!!!

I never seen a human bleed like he did.

Bob...

I'm not sure of the IH number for this mower, but I know it is not one of the more sought after machines. The gear box on this mower is ahead of the axle and this makes it hang very heavy on a team of horses. The model that most are looking for to restore and use is the model with the gear box behind. Believe it or not ,you can buy any part for these old machines you want. The amish, so I've been told has all the plans and can make any part you need including the entire frame. I have one and was told it would bring about $800.00 at and auction.

Man, sounds like your neighbor's lucky to have survived ! Wicked injury.

MtMan....I zoomed in and saw that this mower is a number seven

You DID NOT need to have somebody riding on seat while being pulled with a tractor. Wonder what gave you that false impression.

Some actually prefer the No. 7 over the No. 9 that is the last of the IH horse drawn mowers.

The No. 7 and the No. 9 mowers with a 6 or 7' cutter bar in good operating condition but no paint are now priced at around $1,500 dollars retail from the jockys and they get it. I have provided them with several mowers both the 7 & 9. Along with a lot of hay rakes, some corn planters and grain drills. Some areas don't care if the mower is an open gear No. 4 or No. 6 mower.

I cannot tell from picture what model either one is. I do believe the mower to be a IHC NO. 9 but cannot tell for sure. The rake is a JD but cannot tell if a 3 bar or 4 bar. The mower if is what I believe from picture as it looks like it might be the 7' bar or at least the 6' would be in completely stuck condition would be worth $200 and better condition if complete could bring several hundred dollars. The rake if 3 bar not a lot as most want the 4 bar model. A 3 bar would be considered a parts rake. A 3 bar would be a perfect donor for what ShelleyWD45 needs to sell her rake for a decent price. Also would depend entirely on condition but a 4 bar in poor condition $100 and up depending on condition that cannot be told from pictures. This is Northwest Ohio - Northeast Indiana values and one of the largest Amish areas in the USA. But hauling would be prohibitive. Fuel price alone and I do not even have a truck I would atempt to drive half that far.
