Tire machines What do you think of Coats Tireman

I know this subject has caused more trouble than a monkey in a smoke house knocking down hams!!! But what do you guys think of the old Coats tire man (the round metal one) Some did have air pistons. What would you pay for one? At what point do you buy a tire machine? Yes Jocco has had lots of tire stuff lately and been frustrated.

jocco, i sold my ol coats 40/40 a few years ago, operationally it was a solid machine, functionally, it wouldnt do as much as i needed it to do. I do not have a tire business, just pickups and tractors, implements etc. I bought a used italian conventional style, but i am gonna upgrade to an electric turn table style. It has all made sense because i found a used DSP style tire balancer. They have all paid for themselves in saved time and going into town to have something done, and if and when i rotate tires i go ahead and recheck balance...

I got my tire machine because of timeliness. The closest tire shop is 10 miles away. Next closest is 15. Then maybe the tire shop is backed up a couple hours when I bring in a tire. When my planter has a flat and rain is in the forecast I want the flat fixed now, time is money sometimes. If a tire machine is purchased just for convenience we have to sit down and consider if the convenience is worth the expense of buying a machine. Then there is the tire shop charge. Ten tire changes per year times $20 or whatever the shop gets plus the expense of the trip to town adds up. A touchy downfall to having a good tire changer is when the neighbors find out you have a tire changer. I’m glad to help my neighbors in a pinch but I am not Jim’s tire shop.

You can change a basic tire on it nuttin fancy but will change a basic tire... My first experience was on one at a service station back in the 70"s worked great I did not know their was any thing better at the time...

I would put a value on a good one at several hundred dollars and be happy if I did not have anything better.. Tell you the truth I would think I stole it at that price you don't see them for sale often... Why,,, Why would you get rid of something useful other than that they make damm good yard art...

They were antique in 1973 when I got out of the army. They do work. I used 1 when I went to work for the COOP. They are better than nothing. Make sure you get the coats combo bar that came with it.

Looking up what a tireman was so I would know the model. We have one like that. I do all of our tires from wagon to tractor fronts car and pickup on it. It works good for breaking down the beads. Then I move inside to finish the job in the winter. Cheap easy to use. I have done from the narrow rims to 10 inch wide on it. I wouldn't pay big money for one and big money is determined by your need/demand for a tire machine. I even do our aluminum wheels on it.

Cat there are several models of it. Some had air cylinders some were strictly manual. One was like a Star 3 or something like that. There has been a lot of tire machines for sale lately. These are priced anywhere from $50-$200. We've had an awful round with tires lately.
