Help ID a part - spline shaft coupling

Need help ID'ing the specific name for a particular coupling type. Unfortunately I keep forgetting to get an image of the one I'm after from the Ditch Witch at work.

It's a sliding spline coupling. The inner portion is simply slides on a spline shaft. When a lever is moved it slides the coupling until it engages with another shaft. The outer ring is fixed and does not spin...it has a set of "trunions" on either side so the forks of the engaging arm to pivot on. The inner coupling spins inside the outer ring just like a sealed bearing does.

Got a project I'm trying to get started on and the most critical component...a disconnect meant to transmit power to a 3rd axle (tandem rear) that can be engaged//disengaged...depends on finding this specific PURPOSE built component. Otherwise it means piecing one together. I'd rather it be the former.

No. That disconnect has the right idea but is meant for operation right at the diff as well as being FAR outside the price range of the part I'm after. But it is also a partial yes. Even if this was...I'd still need an overhead shaft to get power to the rear axle. SEE BELOW.

Since I'll be pairing up axles never meant for tandem I'll need to mount a low profile disconnect on top of the main drive axle. It will be powered via chain//sprocket at the pinion (hopefully a flange type so I can sandwich everything). Idea is to have 2 separate shafts each supported by 2 bearings. 1 short shaft that is being powered off the pinion while the other goes out the back of the "box" with a U-joint just outside where a drive shaft connects to the rear axle which will be pitched up slightly to lower the joint angles. Inside the box the shafts will be butted up to one another that a collar can slide on...it will ride on 1 of them at all times. Ideally the middle of the box will be sealed and grease-filled so the guts are kept lubed. Either a sliding rod w/ fork will come in from the front of the box or there will be a pivot arm (ie exactly how a clutch release bearing works...except the bearing is inside with the splined collar not out).

Sort of like that...as a reference...except the ID spline collar is what is moved instead of an entire socketed shaft.

DOG GEAR!? But with uniform internal splines & ideally with roller bearings between it and the outside ring. Otherwise it will end up being just a sliding collar with a shift fork.

That's close. Not QUITE what I'm after unless I overlooked some detail when I last took a peek under the seat on the trencher at the setup. I recall the two separated halves of shaft being uniformly the same on other side. Fully disengaged I could see the narrow gap between ends as well.

This isn't needed immediately so I'll keep looking but the spline clutch is close. As soon as I'm back at the yard I'll try to remember to get some images.

Is how I approx how I remember it except the splined inside spun separately while the outside had a couple ears.

Generally you get the original part number from the manufacturer and go from there. Looks like you can access parts diagrams on their web site with a little sign up.

No picture, no model number, no part number, really just shooting in the dark.

Okay THAT got it going down the right path. One result mentioned INDUSTRIAL so I added that to the result and (at least image wise) brought up almost exactly what I'm looking for. Only hang up is the place is the UK.

Just might do that.

Best I could otherwise do would be get an image but that doesn't do much. I THINK we have a manual with parts breakdown at the shop for the old beast...runs on a V4 Wisconsin.

Most dog clutches I'm finding only work in 1 direction. I need it to work on both. So far haven't been able find sources for this specific type...
