Another Vintage Barn

This was a magnificent old barn in it's day. I took the photo at the farm auction sale in the spring of 2013. I am not sure if the barn is still standing at this point. Must try to take notice next time I'm in the area.

Ralph- I'd be really interested if that barn was constructed like ours- it has the same shape. Laminated trusses that went from footings to peak in one piece. Ours replaced a traditional post/beam barn that was lost to lightning, I believe the laminated trusses were used because of the scarcity of timber-quality wood following the War. Our sidewalls are only 9 feet tall. Here's a couple shots of our 1950 version.

Where was that barn?

It looks a lot like one that was moved in a mile north of me several years ago.

I never got to see the inside of the barn as it was locked up the day of the sale. The farm had been in the family since 1916 so the barn is likely close to that age. I see on google earth as of 2016 it was still standing. Near Dysart, Sask.

I appreciate the efforts and concerns of propping up a leaning barn, but often wondered if it really helps to keep it from falling, maybe postpones the inevitable.

Fellow I wish I had the sales book that was on the farm. I guess dad pitched it when they left the farm. It showed the exact same building and similar ones. Here in Canada they were called Beety Barn design. maybe sears simply bought them from Beety or the reverse. Nice design. very few interior hinderances to the loft like the post and beam style.

(quoted from post at 03:03:56 04/07/19) It looks like a Sears barn Rusty?
Possibly a Sears but I think Eatons was the bigger seller of homes and barns in this area. I can think of 3 locally that were Eaton homes (including my own). I was able to download this pdf of the Eaton Plan Book of Ideal Homes that included a few barns as well. Here is an image from the barn page.

Rusty6- Do you have a copy of the "Beatty Barn Book"? I may have an extra copy. It lists a hundred or so barn designs, plus details on stanchions, stable cleaners and other neat details. Your uncles barn looks like it may have been a Beatty design. Let me know. unc

The Beatty book sounds interesting and is not one I have ever seen. I've got a few in an "Ideal Homes" book as well as the EAtons one. Now here is something for the architects and engineers to look at. The original blue prints with my great uncle's name on it. Lower right corner reads "Better Built Regina Sask."
