Farm Auctions

Spring auction sale season is about to start here in Sask. I've been to a bunch over the past nearly 50 years. Some more memorable than others. Took this picture at one near me from spring of 2000. I'd worked at that farm since I was a kid in high school in 1969 so it had a lot of memories for me.

Was just sitting here going through the auction listings in my part of the world, north of Detroit. Looks like one auctioneer has most of the farm retirement sales. The estate sales look to be divided up amongst the rest. Not sure what that means if anything. Just an observation.

often wondered about that, we have a local auctioneer that gets most of the realestate sales.

Lots of auction catalogues in the mail lately and the biggest change I see over the years is that it used to be old farmers retiring. Now we see a lot of huge modern farms and equipment selling out. Interesting too how the auctioneers have consolidated. There used to be a lot more of them. The Hodgins auctions shown in my picture is now part of Ritchie Brothers who have bought out a lot of other smaller auctioneers over the years.

Could be he is the only licenced realator.. You have to be a realator as well as an auctioneer to sell real estate. Most auctioneers do not have enough of a reason to go through all the hassels to become a realator.
