Disc or Plow

I recently purchased a Ford 8N. I am looking at either buying a 3pt disc (6ft county line or similar), or a one bottom plow, but can not afford both right now. I am looking for advice as to which I should get. Primary use is for food plots and a large garden. Soil is on the sandy side. I also own a single row cultivator already.

Any advice is appreciated.

This late in the winter and in sandy soil, I would get the disc first. Probly just plan on discing this year and
not do any plowing. Buy a plow later, and plan on plowing in the fall. That's what I would do if it were me.

I?d get the disc and a spike tooth harrow section will
do what you want could get away without the
harrow

IF you have sod you need both. A 1 bottom 12" plow is all a N ford will pull in our soil. A 3 point
disk in the size you can pull will not do a good job of working up sod. It will be far too light for
good soil penetration. FYI a running N ford sells for $500.00-800.00 dollars around here. Good luck with
your purchase.

For one only I'd go with a disc but as has been said, you really need both. You might be able to stir some dirt by using the cultivator depending on the soil and how much grass covers it and then disc it. In my area a good running good condition 8N will bring 1500-2500$.

Forget the 3 point disk and find an old drag type. You can load them to due cutting that the 3 point you cannot load like that. And you can put all new blades on one and still be money ahead and it will do better work. Only reason for a 3 point disk is if tou have road travel.

Agree the drag type disk will do a much better job,I have several I use on food plots usually pick them up at auctions for around $100.Also I'd be looking for a ripper not a plow.

What part of the country are you
in? Craigslist and Facebook
market place are great places to
find used equipment. Used is the
way to go. Just post pictures here
before you buy. Everyone will
chime in and let you know if the
piece is any good. 5 ft ,3 point
disks can be bought for a couple
hundred bucks around here. And a 1
bottom plow for $150-200. Kevin

Garden needs a plow to turn top under so you need a plow those discs will not prepare a good seed bed for a garden.

No, but a plow will do even worse.
Of the two, only a disc can be used alone. Not ideal, but I've planted a lot of food plots using only a disc.
