New holland square balers

Is there any difference in the knotters for using plastic twine compared to sisle twine On New Holland 273 and 268 balers ?

Other than the tension leaving the twin box, there is not. I've a 269 I make a hundred or so with ea year, just for calves (beats trying to unroll a round one) and have used both. I just got really tired of fighting that darn plastic and went back to sisel a few years ago for both the round bales and the small squares

There is a difference in how you tighten the tension on those two small springs on the knotter assembly. I forget which way is which. You can see them from the top.

My local dealer told me that there are different bill hooks for plastic twine for my 276, but the ones in it would probably work fine. When I tried plastic I thought the bailer tied plastic better.

I have a NH 315 and have used plastic twine from AGCO and the local NH dealer, and sisal from the local farm and home. All worked the same with no mods. Owners manual mentions changing the bill hook to one designed for plastic. It may be a wear issue.....can't say. It does matter as to which knot strength plastic you use. Needs to be the 7200 length.....170# knot strength.

Anyway, big knock I've heard from some on sisal is the quality is iffy.....one guy told me the stuff just pulls apart when his crews pick up the bales.

Is there a reliable / quality brand of sisal to look for?

There are part #'s for sisal and plastic bill hooks. They are supposed to be subtly different. I've never personally known anyone to use them. Mine work with both.
