On top of back and siatic issue got the schedule for an antique engine show this summer. Daydreamed about going and so on. Told Mrs. Jocco she walks to calendar and says well we have this family function that weekend!!! After a few words I told her I guess I would be at the engine show and out I went!! Coming to the conclusion she does not like engine shows!!! SO HOW BAD AM I IN THE DOG HOUUSE?? Now for the rant why is it if you have an event in say November something else will fall on that day/weekend and mess it up? This seems chronic even if you schedule a year out, yep there will be something!!

I?ve been known to miss family functions for Junkshow. My family is close just don?t expect to see me in September. Enough said.

I've pretty much got the immediate family trained to do things on Sunday when we don't work. I work Saturdays, the son's engine shop is open on Saturday and the younger boy who does machining works a lot of Saturdays. Some of the extended family hasn't gotten the memo though.

Well RR this is not just a Sunday. Takes up whole weekend both engine show and family function!! Add in travel motel you get the idea.

Yep,unless it was the funeral of a close family member, they'd be doing it without me. I've missed a few weddings that didn't happen at the right time.

My sons both live miles away and 3 of my grandkids have October birthdays. Between my wife being a school teacher and me doing harvest, October birthdays don't get celebrated in October with grandpa and grandma. Now if it was for a junk show or even a good engine/tractor/car show, it would be the doghouse for sure.

I have suggested to a friend who often has this problem to look ahead and see when he "won't be available" and let the family know FAR in advance that they shouldn't schedule things on those dates if they expect him to be there.

My wife has seen my spread sheet of "potential" show/swap meet dates for April through October, 2019. She got upset but I said those are only a "draft" of events that I MIGHT attend/participate.
I try to keep my range under 200 mile radius from home. I have a 6.5 foot slide in camper for my short bed Chevy 1500 4x4. I pull a 24' enclosed trailer with "stuff" and "things". At most shows I'm in the flea market. I usually take my golfcart but I may take a couple of my garden tractors. I have a 6'x12' wagon with my wares for the flea market. I call it my roving yard sale. (tractors not for sale)

Hi, a guy has to do what a guy has to do! I missed a family re union because it was our busiest day of the year, August 1st long weekend. Also my daughters 2nd wedding for same reason a few years later. I told them if they chose that day, I couldn't be there Ed Will Oliver BC

Go to the show, I avoid the wife's family at all costs. Let's just say there are 4 people in the world that know how to farm/live and I married their daughter and their sister.

I've missed 2 or 3 full days of tractor shows due to weddings. I'm about down to being a total jerk and just not going. To the weddings that is.

I look at it this way as I get older. If it is not my kids/Grand kids, I more than likely will not be going.

I absolutely hate modern weddings. All this talk about love and forever. Spending tons of money they usually do not have for a fancy wedding. Then about half getting divorced in under 5-10 years.

My first wife and I wedding cost less than $100 and that included her getting a new dress. She wore it to church for years after that. My second wedding cost just a little more in that we took my kids out to eat after.

I have been to at least 2 nieces weddings in the summer instead of mowing and baling hay. Regretting it both times as rainy weather set in upon return. Then I lost hay due to being rained on. Couple other ?fun? things I got guilted into went the same way. On the other hand, sometimes things do work out when we do the pleasure before business. I normally tell others ahead of time hay comes first. And do my best to try to be earlier than that.
