Took my oldest brother to Dubuque, Iowa last Summer to see a LST-Navy transport ship-for he was on one when he was in the Navy. I was looking through some pics I took and saw this. The second pic is of the berthing compartment where the Marines slept and a dummy dressed as one--That's all I"m going to say--Infiltration???---Tee PS-Remember NO POLITICS!!!!!

USS Wyndom County, LST 1170. I rode that sucker from Japan to Taiwan when I was in a Marine Aircraft Group deploying to a Nationalist Chinese Air Force Base near Ping Tung, Taiwan.

It was in August, hot and sticky. I was too claustrophobic to sleep in the compartment. I went to our quarters to shave and change clothes, but come sleeping time I sacked out across the seat of a truck on the deck.

Of my 4 years in the Navy I was on a ship 30 days. The USS Salisbury Sound. Anchored in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Our squadron of sea planes, had a detachment from the Phillippines to fly patrols off the coast. The mecks lived on the ship. We got the worst berthing compartment on the ship. When a plane was hoisted on the ship for repairs. It was so hot on the ship. The planes had a couple bunks. I would sleep in the plane. I think the Navy is a lot different now. Stan

In ten years in the Marine Corps, between aircraft carriers, troop ships, etc. I spent almost two years total aboard ship.

I've always said I think I have more sea duty than a lot of sailors.
