Fencing a gully

I had some yearlings find a soft spot in the fence where it crosses a gully about 6 feet deep. In their defense, the grass really is quite a bit greener on the other side. I find these areas really hard to fence well. I spent some time patching this one up this morning. I can't make it too perfect, it will wash away several times a year. How do you men handle it?

I've put a cable across and attached cattle panels that were cut in half and let it swing. It will need cleaning from time to time as it will collect trash. I've had some in place for over 25 yrs. and might of had to clean them twice.

I did a search for "water gap" and came up with a bunch of PICs. I posted the one I think would work best. I've seen a few like it work. gm

Yep, cable and free-swinging panels x 3! Known as a 'watergate' in the UK - that may mean someting else to you guys!!

Maybe a light weight wood post tied to bottom would allow it to float on high water and not catch so much debris.

We use cable, turnbuckles, and cattle panels that we tie at the top and drive a short steel post in the middle of the panel on the back side. Water usually will push the post over. Then run 1 stand of electric fence wire across and make sure it is hot! I fence about 10 water gaps that way and it works in NE Kansas.
