Cabin fever and a long winter has gotten the best of us. Intend to road trip to the SE USA from NE Indiana any good museums etc? Plan to visit the USS Yorktown and Biltmore other than that just tour on the two lanes.

Mythical Mayberry aka Mount Airy, home of Andy Griffith.
Old Salem in Winston-Salem, Bethania, Bethabara, historic Moravian
settlements.
Guilford Battleground, Revolunary war site.
Transportation museum in Spencer.
Many historical sites throughout the state. Along the coast, Fort Fisher,
Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington, Fort Macon, State aquariums, State
Zoo in Asheboro.

Much more.

I live in NC. My favorite museum right now is the North Carolina Transportation Museum at Spencer, NC. Lots of trains. There are cars and
other stuff to see too.

If you like trains, the Great Smoky mountain railway has some excursions and they aren't too far from Asheville.

Since it sounds like you are going to Charleston SC., you shouldn't miss Fort Sumter, where the civil war started. There is another fort
nearby, as well. I cannot think of the name. (It was where the first shot was fired from, I think.)

Then there is always The Battery, which is on the waterfront which has lots of old civil war era artillery pieces on display and there are
(or used to be, its been a while since I was in Charleston) some old houses you can visit.

Charlotte NC and nearby area have
a lot of NASCAR shops. Most of
them have museums. Fun to see the
fancy shops too. Central AL has a
motor sports museum at Talladega
speed way. Barber motor sports
park near Birmingham has an
awesome motorcycle museum. Also
southern museum of flight. And you
could always stop here for a
biscuit!!
. In SC Hunting Island is a nice
stop. Vietnam war scenes in Forest
Gump were shot there. And some of
the shrimp boat stuff. Warner
robins afb in ga has a huge
museum. Takes a day to see. Find
you some good southern cookin'!!!! Kevin in Central AL

Your going to one of my favorite places, the Yorktown. On the way down, youll be about 7 miles from me. If you need a pit stop, and a cup of coffee, let me know!

Keith Jones' tractor museum in Chester VA is a great visit,Monticello and Ash Lawn near Charlottesville VA are interesting. If you want to see a bunch of old garden tractors,Olivers and AC
tractors you can come by my place.A drive up the Blue Ridge parkway is pretty interesting too if you like the Nature Thing.Lots of pretty vineyards in Central VA.

You should plan to spend at least a few hours on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's a very pleasant drive.

The North Carolina Zoological Part at Asheboro is good.

A nice coastal drive is to go from Wilmington, NC down to Fort Fisher, then take the ferry from Fort Fisher to Southport. The Fort Fisher aquarium, Fort Fisher, and Brunswick Town are all on this route.

A MUCH LONGER coastal drive is to take the ferry from Cedar Island, NC to Ocracoke, then drive up the Outer Banks to Nags Head. This is a full day trip. The ferry alone takes three hours. You can visit Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Kitty Hawk.

One of my favorite places to visit is Tryon Palace in New Bern. The colonial palace is a reconstruction, but it is furnished in real antiques from the period. The gardens on the grounds are impressive as well.

Im not from Virginia, so I wouldnt know. I live in SC. He will be at Biltmore, then going to the Yorktown, I assume. So he will be going right near me.

If you like to read, the Green Valley Bookfair in Mount Crawford, VA is a good place to get good deals on books. Check their
website for the schedule, only open for 4-6 weeks at a time, 6 or 7 times a year. They sell over runs, etc at 50%-90% off retail.
Also a few antique stores, etc, up there and some vineyards.

I haven't been but there was a write up in a recent American Rifleman about the gun shop at Williamsburg. They make rifles the old way, completely without modern tooling.
If I was going near there I would stop for sure.

If you pass through NC, don't forget the barbecue. Much has been written
and said about the two styles of it, Eastern and Western. Raleigh is the
dividing line. From pork, Western barbecue is seasoned with a tomato based
sauce while Eastern seasoning is vinegar based. The best is cooked slowly
over wood coals.

A little farther inland take a drive on the Blueridge Parkway from Front Royal, Va to Roanoke, Va.
Beautiful winding two lane road along the top of the mountain, lots of scenery.

Hit the coast lines. Is Spring break about to begin or did you just miss it ? The beaches will be full of scenery ! lol.
Sorry I just saw the movie bad grandpa this weekend. lol.

All over down there is the Vanishing Civil War. Best see it before it is gone at the rate it is being built up. And revised by the Bolshevik's.
